It turned out to be an outstanding success, with seven squads of shooters taking to the tracks.
It has been nine years since the club has had that many competitors turn up.
Visitors from Orange, Wellington, Goolma, Cowra, West Wyalong and Forbes – with regular shooters, plus several of Toby’s old mates that only shoot once a year – making up the numbers.
Locals were kept busy with the ladies flat out keeping up the food and drinks, raffle tickets, etc and the men finding time to have a shot themselves after refereeing, scoring and keeping the traps loaded with clay targets.
Greg Buckley and Jeff Breadon did a fine job in the office with nominations, score sheets and handicap cards.
The first two events were cash divides shares by the highest scorers in each event. Then came the main event, The Toby Hawke 30 target handicap, with 1st going to Mark Dutton $200, 2nd Mark Lawford $100, 3rd Karl Milligan $50.
Special awards for our new novice members were, best junior Hudson Hawke and most improved James Dean.
With the excellent roll-up of shooters and the generosity of all place getters who handed their cash awards back in for Can Assist.
As in all previous Toby Hawke Memorials, Adele will be handed the shoot earning, to go to CanAssist and this year’s donation is looking close to $1000.

Last weekend we saw five shooters at the complex. Shooting at ordinary targets at both 25 and 50 meters.
This was for a maximum of 500 points. This match was shot under a strong cold south westerly wind which made it difficult at the 50 meter range.
Target rifles – 25m, 50m and total
Brian Drabsch 250, 247, 497
John Davis 250, 242, 492
John Smeaton 250, 241, 491
Basyl Rudenko 248, 241, 489
Bernie Shaw 248, 226, 474
Our next shoot is on Sunday, September 3 at 10am.
It will be fox targets at both ranges.
