Each year the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) identifies schools across the country who have made the biggest gains in NAPLAN.
Holy Family is one of only two schools in the western region to be named on the list, the other being Lithgow Public.
Principal, Denise Gersbach said everyone at Holy Family is extremely proud and excited.
“It is a massive achievement,” she said.
“The high gains in numeracy are based on the growth of students in Years 3 to 5.
“We’ve had in place for a number of years a focus on numeracy in every class in the school and now we’re seeing the efforts for our intensive numeracy programs paying off.”
Denise said the results are a reflection of the efforts of every teacher in the school.
“From Kindergarten to Year 6, each and every teacher has contributed to this numeracy success story,” she said.
“We are extremely proud and excited to be one of the 400 schools named nationally on the list.”
NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy.
The assessments are undertaken every year in May.
