The event is a 5km run or walk that the whole family can participate in to raise awareness and funds for The Children’s Tumour Foundation.
This cause is very close to Parkes community’s hearts, as it directly affects some of our locals Hamish and Emma.
Everyone is asked to wear white for the event which will see colour splashed on participants.
If you’ve missed early bird registrations cost is now $50 for adults (over 18 years), $30 for children (under 18 years) and families $145 (2 adults and four children).
Children under 5 years of age are free and children under 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
The event organisers are very grateful to the Parkes businesses and PSC that have really gotten behind the event and have been very generous with their support.
On the day Trent “Dooley” Thomson will be MC and commentating event, with local DJ Joel Thompson providing live music.
Participants can enjoy a sausage sizzle (gold coin donation) and purchase tickets in a raffle (donations provided by local businesses).
A colour war will be held at the end of the race and Complete Hire will be providing their Photo booth for participants wishing to capture the moment.
The forecast is for a colourful eventful fun filled familly day out, with all proceeds going to the Children's Tumour Foundation.
Local suffer Hamish is a 13 year old local boy who was diagnosed with NF1 at the age of 6 months old.
Hamish has hundreds of benign tumours growing on all his nerve endings throughout his whole body with most concerning being in his spine, spinal cord and pelvis, he suffers from muscle weakness, learning difficulties and great deal of pain.
He is no stranger to Westmead Children Hospital, he visits every 3 months for scans and various doctor’s appointments and has done so since he was 5 year old. Hamish takes this all in his stride and is a very happy boy who is inspirational and loved by all who he has contact with.
Emma is a 28 year old female Early Childhood Educator who was diagnosed at the age of 3 years 9 months. NF1 causes benign, often painful masses to grow on her nerves, which appear as subcutaneous lumps; these can occur anywhere. Emma is also affected by low muscle tone, poor coordination, early developmental delay and some low level learning difficulties.
She has compensated for her difficulty with visual learning by developing her auditory learning skills. She has a long term relationship with the Neurogenetics clinic at Westmead Children’s Hospital since the age of 4 years, where she is part of continuing studies into the long term effects of NF1.
