A NSW traffic spokeswoman said a semi-trailer caught on fire west of Sutton Forrest about 11am on Tuesday, closing one northbound lane between the Illawarra Highway and Golden Vale Road intersections.
NSW Police assisted with traffic diversions which direct motorists through the Illawarra Highway.
The spokeswoman said it would take several hours to clean up an oil spill but did not yet know what caused the accident.
NSW Ambulance said they had not received any injury reports.
Fire fighters had extinguished the blaze by 12.30pm.
The incident comes a day after a semi-trailer caught fire on the Hume Highway, south of Sutton Forrest.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze but one lane of the highway remained closed for at least six hours due to debris on the road.
