The WIMnet is a national AusIMM initiative in support of the attraction and retention of women in the minerals industry and is organised by a volunteer committee whose members meet regularly via teleconference.
Jane Chung (Regional Events Coordinator for the Central West) said the group aims to increase the professional development and networking opportunities for women in the industry.
The Parkes event was the first one for the Central West Group of WIMNet NSW.

“Held at Ikon Restaurant, the event gave women in the mining industry the opportunity to meet other women, share experiences and identify possible development opportunities,” Jane said.
“We had representatives from Northparkes Mines, Newcrest (Cadia Valley Operations), Spinifex Recruitment and Lake Cowal (EvolutionMining).”
Jane said the the group is aiming to meet on a quarterly basis and events may include site visits and guest speakers which are relevant to the workplace.
“We are hoping to encourage other personnel from our industry to attend future events to learn and share their experiences,” she said.
“We are also looking to expand the group to include mines in the Mudgee and Lithgow areas.”
