Parkes Public School are a finalist in the Most Outstanding School category for the second year running.
Parkes Public go up against two other schools for the award, Henley High School (SA), and Kingsley Primary School (WA).
Schools are asked to include a lot of information in their submission to assist the selection panel in determining the award winner.
They were asked to show examples of how committed and active the school has been in demonstrating their embracement of tennis into the school environment.
This included teacher’s professional development, and their implementation and relationship building with external partners.
For the students it included leadership values, registration and enthusiasm for the sport.
Parkes Public were asked to show examples of the initiatives they set up to enhance the sport at a local level and demonstrate an increase in the number of students participating and then going onto local community based programs.
A major factor in the selection process was feedback from students supplied by the school on the overall experience by students involved in the program.
The school’s performance in respective team tennis competitions was also a factor.
Students, teachers and the Parkes Public School community will be eagerly awaiting the fifth edition of the Newcombe Medal which will be held at Crown Palladium, Melbourne, on Monday November 24.
