Planning is well underway for the school based education model that inspires young people to learn and care for their local environment.
Theme for this year’s conference will be based around Sustainable Agriculture and farmers and their families.
2014 marks the International Year of the Farming Family.
Parkes East teacher, Maryanne Lowe said the children and staff are very excited to be the host school.
“Everyone is very busy planning and organising a host of different activities that will hopefully inspire other children to learn and care for their environment while raising the profile of farming families in the region,” she said.
Catie Guise (Landservices Officer – Community Education) said the KTK learning model is nationally recognised.
“From our perspective, it’s good to see an increase in schools engaged in environmental activities within their school and local community,” Catie said.
“Kids Teaching Kids is a great opportunity for schools to come together and share their learning.”
One of the principal sponsors of KTK is Target, Australia.
Manager of Target, Parkes, Kevin Bloomfield is an ex Parkes East student and now his daughter, Kiera attends the school.
“Target is proud to be a part of this fantastic initiative to involve all schools in harnessing the ingenuity and creativity of today’s children,” Kevin said.
