Strong winds fanned the flames and the blaze was quickly out of control.
Eight tankers, four bomber planes and two Fire and Rescue NSW pumpers, along with 35 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze and protecting nearby property.
Trucks came from Parkes East, Goobang, Parkes Head Quarters, Tichborne, Eugowra North and Cookamidgera units.
Initial reports state one unoccupied house, two sheds and several old cars have been completely destroyed, with another home sustaining internal damage.
A number of properties were under threat, and a freight train was stopped while the rail line was closed.
The fire burnt out more than seven hectares.
