Michael Carrington is the Cartoon Network’s chief content officer for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and collected the Emmy with the show, The Amazing World of Gumball.
In a snowy New York city last month, The Amazing World of Gumball carried off the award for Best Animation Series at the very first International Kids Emmy Awards.
Michael was in town on business and was able to attend the Emmys ceremony, held at The Lighthouse, Chelsea Piers.
As Executive Producer of the popular series, accepting the award on behalf of the rest of the Gumball team, he said: "This is a very special honour that particularly resonates because it's the inaugural Kids Emmys.
“Gumball's critical success is also being matched by the reception it's getting from our young viewers, with the show attracting huge audiences around the world."
The Amazing World of Gumball transmits on Cartoon Network Australia.
Michael is the eldest son of Elaine and Hubert Plicha (he uses his production-name Carrington for work purposes).
Having completed his HSC at Parkes High School in 1979, Michael became a radio announcer at 2PK for several years.
Then, after a short stint in the Royal Australia Navy, he joined Channel 10 in Sydney where he worked in production.
His credits include the children’s magazine show, Ridgey Didge, and two game shows, Double Dare and Family Double Dare.
He emigrated to Europe in 1990, but regularly returns to Parkes to visit his family.
