Local firefighters with many decades of service have been honoured by the NSW Rural Fire Service at a special ceremony held in Parkes.

Some 35 Long Service Medals, with clasps, were presented to the district volunteers - one of whom has given more than 60 years service, and another four with more than 50.
The District RFS Zone covers almost 30 square kilometres, encompassing a population of 35,419 and the shires of Parkes, Lachlan, Forbes and Weddin.
Long Service Medals/clasps are presented to members in recognition of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 etc years of active service.
The 35 members at the Parkes ceremony totalled a staggering 1111 years of service!
The recipients were all introduced and their outstanding contributions acknowledged. They were as follows:
David Nagorcka - 63 years (joined 1949).
John Carr - 57 years (1955).
John Corcoran - 55 years (1957).
Robert Orr - 54 years (1958).
Bill Freebairn - 53 years (1959).
Ian Jones - 47 years (1965).
Don Orr - 47 years (1965).
Bruce Orr - 43 years (1969).
Edgar Orr - 43 years (1969).
John Smeaton - 40 years (1972).
Ken Keith - 39 years (1973).
Terry Nagorcka - 36years (1979).
Robert Napier - 35 years (1977).
Kevin Ross - 32 years (1980).
Peter Wild - 31 years (1981).
Alan Ross - 30 years (1982).
Kevin Ward - 29 years (1983).
Graham Woods - 29 years (1983).
Christopher Cole - 28 years (1984).
Steven McGrath - 28 years (1984).
Steve Fryer - 28 years (1984).
David Wyatt - 25 years (1987).
Geoffrey Wyatt - 25 years (1987).
