Emergency service personnel were called to the Newell Highway, 17 kilometres north of Parkes, on Thursday afternoon following reports a truck was on fire.
"Firefighters responded to reports of a truck fire around 5pm," a statement from the NSW Police Force Traffic and Highway Patrol Command said.
"On arrival, they located a Western Star prime mover well alight with fire spreading to the hay load on the rear.
"The driver made it out safely with no injuries."
Police officer said firefighters battled the blaze for more than an hour before it could be brought under control and then extinguished.
Police said the truck was heading for northern NSW when the fire occurred.
