Parkes Colts Continue Undefeated Record
The Parkes Colts maintained their undefeated record in the 2018/19 Lachlan Premier Cricket Competition when they completed a comfortable 64 run victory over cross town rivals Parkes Cambridge at Woodward Oval on Saturday, November 24.
Scores were: Parkes Colts 5/196 in 40 overs (Blake Smith 78no, Brent Tucker 26no, Koby Johnstone 23, Grant Dunn 23, Anthony Riach 3/36 off 9 & Shane Jones 1/33 off 9) defeated Parkes Cambridge 9/132 off 40 overs (Shane Jones 40, Anthony Heraghty 25, Cameron Rosser 19, Harry Bayliss 11, Brent Tucker 2/15 off 7, Jared Carty 2/28 off 9, Myles Smith 1/8 off 2, Blake Smith 1/10 off 4, Ryan Dunn 1/30 off 8 & Koby Johnstone 1/19 off 4). Colts won by 64 runs.
Cambridge went into this match without several very talented young players who were involved in the Western Zone Colts Trials in Orange.
Nonetheless Cambridge staged a terrific start to the game as Anthony Riach snatched the wickets of three top order Colts players to have Colts in big trouble as their score stood at 3/9 in the 8th over. Youngster Koby Johnstone (23 with 3 fours) then joined the inform Blake Smith (78no with 3 fours) to add 54 runs for the 4th wicket.
Grant Dunn batted sensibly to assist Blake Smith in adding 84 runs for the 5th wicket before Brent Tucker played a swashbuckling innings of 26no (1 four and 1 mighty six) to pile on an undefeated 49 run stand for the 6th wicket. Blake Smith, after his brilliant 34no against Bathurst in the Western Zone Premier League the previous Sunday, demonstrated why he is a very skilful batsman in scoring 78no.
In reply, Cambridge were never really able to get on top of a persistent Colts bowling attack despite a couple of sound innings of 25 by Anthony Heraghty and 19 by Cameron Rosser.
It took a determined innings of 40 with 4 fours by evergreen all-rounder Shane Jones to add substance to the Cambridge innings and ensure Cambridge batted out their allocated 40 overs.
Colts were well served by Brent Tucker (2/15 off 7), youngster Jared Carty (2/28 off 9) and up and coming off-spinner Ryan Dunn (1/30 off 8), while the Smith brothers each took a valuable wicket at low cost during their short spells at the bowling crease.
In the other Lachlan Premier Cricket games played on 24/11 was at Holman Oval, Cowra where Cowra Valleys defeated Cowra Bowling Club by 4 wickets.
