Over 70 “Parkes-ites” came to the Parkes Bowling and Sports Club to compete for the title August Trivia Winners!
Every March and August, we hold the challenging events to raise money for the Smith Family “Learning for Life” schoolchildren that we sponsor.
Our efforts to do these activities are worth it because of the outcome.
The events we stage might be of some effort to each of us, but the fun we have during them, plus the money we raise, is certainly worth any fuss or bother.
An extra bonus is that all the attendees see how well the VIEW Club operates.
We say “Welcome” to all women to our club each Meeting.
So, this time there were 11 tables of locals competing, with the usual donations of handfuls of chocolates given to winners of each stage, which meant there were very few chocolates left at the end of the evening’s comp.
A sudden thought – perhaps we can award a prize to the most original team name, too.
There were 11 that were very intriguing, including the winners; Odd Man Out.
Charlie Pecenka, as he has been doing for some years, once again organised the sheets of intriguing questions, plus some black and white photos in unusual angles of the town’s buildings.
Once again, he was unbribable; not that I tried, of course!
Tom Furey asked some of the questions, where all competitors stood, and then had to answer if each statement was the truth or false.
If true, hands on heads, then if false, hands on bottoms.
Within five or six of the questions, most of us were out.
VIEW Club members are well-known for our cooking skills, and we proved this on the night.
There were many, many home-made yummy treats during and after our Trivia event.
There were several compliments said to us about the treats - ”thank you” to one and all!.
And no one went home hungry, either.
“Thank you”, also to all the local shops that put up our posters about the event in their staff rooms or their front windows.
It had certainly helped spread the word, as did a mention on our local radio stations.
Lyndall Bowen was the Captain of the “Odd Man Out” winning team, and had the help of Carol Job, Lynn Ryan, Steven Ryan, Robyn Smith and Dot Bradley. Congrats to you folks!!
And, to all the rest that came to Trivia Night – a great big “Well done”!
