Sarah Coles from Parkes has taken on the new role of business support officer following a restructure of council’s engineering department.
And she made her first appearance – on just day two of the job – at council’s May meeting on May 15 where she was introduced to councillors.
As is the tradition with new council employees, Sarah sat in and listened to the discussions in the Council Chambers before mingling with staff and councillors during afternoon tea at the meeting.
Council now has a new business support administration structure for the engineering department.
Sarah’s position was created as a support role for the new business support coordinator, appointed to Sue McGrath.
Sarah will help with customer service and business management.
“Basically what a business support officer would do in a small business, that’s what Sarah is within council,” council’s Director of Infrastructure Andrew Francis said.
“It’s a team of two at the moment, whose job essentially is to run the back-end of the engineering department.”
Mr Francis said there are plans of a trainee position opening up in the future.
While two days isn’t much to go by, Sarah said at the meeting the job was going good so far.
“There’s lots to learn,” she said.
“But it’s interesting.”
