Reedy Creek Raptors edge out Reedy Creek Gold
The B grade Final was played at Woodward Oval between Reedy Creek Raptors and Reedy Creek Gold.
The Raptors emerged as the victors after a closely contested match that was umpired by Robert Ryan and Glen Pepper.
Spectators at Woodward Oval may have thought that they were at a convention for St Patricks Day Irish Leprechauns as they saw the headwear that adorned the Raptors team.
The scores were Reedy Creek Raptors 10/105 in 27.3 overs (Ben Coultas 39, Jacob Hutchings 16, Kyle Branscombe ten, Scott Knight eight, Jack Murray eight, Nathan Munday 3/4 off two, Brad Fletcher 3/18 off four and Luke Clarke 1/10 off four) defeated Reedy Creek Gold 10/92 in 29.1 overs (Nathan Munday 19, Sam Carty 13, Luke Clarke 11, Will Harry ten, Luke Nash 3/17 off six, Scott Knights 2/5 off three, Jack Ford 2/12 off four, Adam Parker 1/3 off two and Jack Murray 1/10 off 2.1). Reedy Raptors won by 13 runs to claim the 2017/18 Coolabah Cup.
Raptors started strongly in the match as opener's Jacob Hutchings and Ben Coultas combined to score a quick fire 42 runs for the first wicket partnership, after winning the toss and electing to bat.
Ben Coultas played a fine innings which included three boundaries to top score with 39 runs.
Raptors score stood at 2/75 before some excellent bowling from Reedy Gold saw a constant fall of wickets and the raptors eventually all out for 105 in 27.3 overs.
Nathan Munday and Brad Fletcher played a pivotal role with the ball as they both took three wickets a piece, as the Raptors struggled to withstand some very accurate and tight bowling.
Luke Clarke, Matt Hetherington, and the Carty combination of Jared and Sam also bowled very well and helped to limit the raptors run scoring.
In reply, Reedy Gold did not have the best start to their innings as they lost a wicket in the first over following a well-executed run-out from Scott Knights.
Mitch Wright and Sam Carty then combined to post 24 valuable runs for the second wicket before both fell victims to some fine bowling from Scott Knights (2/5 off three).
With the score standing at 4/48 after 15 overs, the match was evenly positioned for both teams.
Luke Clarke (11), Jackson Glasheen (9), Will Harry (10) and Nathan Munday (9) all played some good shots and added useful runs during their run-chase but were unable to capitalise on their starts.
Luke Nash bowled an impressive six over spell as he claimed three important wickets while the improving Jack Ford also contributed taking two wickets during his four overs.
As a result, Reedy Gold required then required 27 runs for victory with only two wickets remaining.
Jared Carty (19no) demonstrated some great batting to keep the Gold's in contention for victory.
Former Parkes representative players, Jack Murray and Adam Parker displayed some fine bowling in the final overs of the match as they both took a wicket each and helped the Raptors dismiss Reedy Gold for 92 in 29.1 overs and claim a premiership victory.
Both teams should be commended for the spirit in which the match was played and congratulated for their great season of cricket.
Reedy Creek Green too strong for Bowling Club
The 'C' Grade Final was played at Northparkes Oval between Reedy Creek Green and Bowling Club. Reedy Green emerged as convincing victors in a game umpired by Trevor Chatman and Greg Morrissey.
The scores were Reedy Green 5/170 in 30 overs (Stuart Milne 81, Lindsay Hughes 19, Grant Dunn 42no, Craig Dunn 13no, Shaun Bateson 2/17 off six and Alec Bateson 2/28 off six) defeated Bowling Club 63 in 23 overs (Michael McGrath 21no, Nathan Hessel 14, Stuart Milne 0/3 off four, Michael Ostler 3/14 off six, Ryan Dunn 4/25 off 6 & Miki Dunn 3/16 off five). Reedy Green defeated Bowling Club by 107 runs to win the 2017/18 Radiola Cup.
This game begin as a very well contested match as Bowling Club's opening bowlers in Shaun and Alec Bateson bowled with plenty of skill and enthusiasm to pose plenty of problems for the Reedy Green batsmen.
It took very capable players to defy the spirited Bowling Club attack. Stuart Milne and Lindsay Hughes demonstrated good technique and concentration as they took the Reedy Green score to 1/47 before Lindsay Hughes lost his wicket for 19 runs.
Alec Bateson took two more wickets in quick succession to have Reedy Green in some trouble at 3/52.
Stuart Milne then took over to play a dominant innings as he hammered any wayward and not so wayward bowling to score a masterly 81 which included 8 boundaries.
Grant Dunn (42no) and Craig Dunn (13no) really played well to score rapid runs as they blasted 51 runs in around 6 overs at the end of their allocated overs.
Shaun and Alec Bateson were top performers for Bowling Club both taking two wickets each.
In reply, Bowling Club were never really able to get on top of a very persistent Reedy Green bowling attack led by seasoned campaigners Stuart Milne (0/3 off 4) and Michael Ostler (3/14 off six).
Michael well have good reason to keep on playing cricket in the 2018/19 season as he took two wickets off the final two balls of his six over bowling stint.
Nathan Hessel (14) and Michael McGrath (21no) showed plenty of defence for Bowling Club before the younger members of the Dunn family in Ryan (4/25 off six) and his sister Miki (3/16 off 5) took over to rip through the Bowling Club batting line-up.
Grant Dunn was seen wearing a big smile of contentment at the PDCA Presentation Ceremony on Saturday evening. He had good reason to be proud of Ryan and Miki for their improved, skilful efforts with the ball.
Reedy Green's Craig Chapple chimed in to snare two smart catches to help his team gain victory.
The Bowling Club team deserve credit for playing in good spirit and fun during the season they have most certainly enjoyed plenty of success.
At the conclusion of the games Parkes District Cricket Association conducted a very pleasant, well attended Presentation Ceremony at the Leagues Club where winners for the 2017/18 season were announced and presented with appropriate trophies.
