The Parkes Action Club has decided not to reschedule the Christmas Street Parade after it was cancelled on Friday due to weather risks.
The annual Sparkle in the Park event that includes Christmas markets and a movie night and usually followed the street parade was also cancelled.
Organisers were right to do so with more than 98mm of rain falling from 6pm Friday, continuing into Sunday morning.
The Parkes Action Club was considering rescheduling the parade to Thursday night, December 7.
But said unfortunately a suitable alternative date for the parade could not be reached due to conflicting community events.
“After speaking to the BOM (Bureau of Meteorlogy) a few times in the hours before 12 noon [on Friday] it was decided to go ahead with the parade but the warnings changed later in the day so it was decided to cancel the parade,” Parkes Action Club Christmas Parade chaiman Stafford Orange said.
However members are already planning for next year, assuring the popular street parade will return bigger and better in 2018.
Action Club members thanked those who entered this year.
The Parkes Upmarkets has confirmed that the Sparkles Upmarkets and movie night will go ahead on Saturday, December 16 from 5pm in Cooke Park.
The outdoor movie, The Santa Clause 2, will begin at sundown.
Organisers say there will be plenty of family fun and entertainment, with face painting, photos with Santa, and food and drinks also featuring at the event.
Taking place this weekend will be the annual Carols in Cooke Park on Sunday, December 10.
The event, presented by the Parkes Ministers Association, will run from 6.30pm-9.30pm.
Come together to celebrate the spirit of Christmas and sing carols under the stars at Cooke Park.
