This happened recently for the Parkes Stitch and Bitch Quilting Group, who in March 2016 donated 25 quilts to the Canberra Women's and Children's Hospital at Woden.
Canberra woman Rebecca Thorpe reached out to the Parkes Champion Post, searching for a contact person of the group.
Her seven-year-old son Levi had been in a serious dirt bike accident and had been in hospital undergoing many surgeries at the end of September.
These ladies have made a great, positive impact during this traumatic time.

“He received the most beautiful quilt from a group of ladies in Parkes,” Rebecca said.
“Levi loves the quilt so much and it has not left his side,” she said at the time.
Rebecca said she wanted to personally thank them from the bottom of her heart for making the quilt.
“These ladies have made a great, positive impact during this traumatic time,” she said.
“I feel that it is important for them to know that their time and effort is extremely appreciated.”
The Parkes Stitch and Bitch Quilting Group has been running for 12 years now.
They have only been donating quilts to the Canberra Hospital for a couple of years, where members have travelled to Canberra to deliver the quilts themselves.
The hospital provides a high level of care to children from birth to 17 years suffering life threatening illnesses or injuries.
The group also donates quilts to the Parkes Palliative Care Group.
Member of the quilting group, Colleen Flynn, was delighted to hear about how much comfort their quilt has brought Levi.
“It’s lovely to get feedback like this,” she said.
“We’re only too glad that we’re able to do this to comfort people in some way or another.
“The unfortunate part is we can’t do more.”
Colleen described the group – which has 11 members – as “just a bunch of friends who get together” every fortnight.
“It (making and donating quilts) certainly gives you some satisfaction,” she said.
