The awards seek to acknowledge organisations and individuals who are achieving excellence within Australia’s airport industry.

Parkes was awarded joint winner in the Airport Innovation and Excellence in the Operations category, for its Aerodrome Reporting Officer Network Forum – an initiative established with Dubbo, Orange and Scone.

Chair of the Parkes Regional Airport Committee, Councillor Alan Ward was thrilled with the accolade, passing on the good news to his fellow councillors at Parkes Shire Council’s November monthly meeting on Tuesday.

“This award recognises the fantastic work of our airport operational staff,” he said.

“Through this joint initiative, Parkes has the opportunity to share knowledge with other regional councils in order to implement best practice initiatives and deliver improved efficiencies in operations and safety outcomes for all stakeholders.”

The Aerodrome Reporting Officer Network Forum was established in 2016 to enhance the productivity of the regional airports involved.

The forums are conducted every six months to identify and address challenges experienced in the regional aviation industry, share knowledge, promote professional growth of operational staff, and to ensure a safe environment for airport staff, visitors, passengers, contractors and airlines.

Parkes Regional Airport received a $3 million upgrade in 2016 to future proof the facility including terminal refurbishment and expansion, infrastructure and technology improvements, accessible design, improved baggage handling and new security regime readiness.

A further $1.56 million was committed by the Federal Government towards Stage 2 of the Parkes Regional Airport development, under the National Stronger Regions Fund.

Stage 2 of the development includes an airside apron, taxiways and fire and medical emergencies infrastructure to improve airport operations for passengers.
