With just over two weeks to go until the event on Friday, December 1 – those who are thinking of taking part had better get their entries in soon.
The Parkes Action Club is organising the parade again this year and will be accepting entries until Friday, November 24.
The route – to run clockwise from Caledonia Street to Welcome Street, and back down Clarinda and Short streets – has been approved by state and council authorities.
The assembly and starting point will be in Caledonia Street from 5.30pm, with the parade to begin at 6pm.
Parkes Action Club member Peter Guppy said they so far have in excess of 15 floats for the parade.
“Last year the parade excited the whole community, mostly because it involved a large part of businesses, clubs, schools and community groups,” he said.
“The Parkes Action Club members are looking forward to working with the businesses and associations of Parkes to make this a great start to the Christmas festivities for the local community.”
Also eager to get involved in the parade as they do every year is Parkes East Public School students.
For principal Michael Ostler, there’s more than one reason why his school participates in the event.
“It’s great fun, to support our town and have our students enjoy the Christmas spirit,” Mr Ostler said.
Every year Mr Ostler usually crunches the numbers and said at least two thirds of his students participate in the Christmas parade.
“It was fabulous to have the parade back last year,” he said.
“It certainly added to the festive feel of our town.”
The Christmas parade made a return to Clarinda Street in 2016 after a two-year hiatus.
Entry forms for the parade are available at the Parkes Library or by emailing parkesactionclub@gmail.com.
