SHOOTING
PARKES RIFLE CLUB
Parkes SSAA Sporting Clays: Last month's shoot only six shooters attended the shooting complex and shot in a 80 target day with 2 events. Event 1 - 60 target known rise using 6 auto clay throwers set at various angles and speeds etc. Greg Buckley 57, David Tanks 50, Brian Drabsch 49, Clinton Duffy 47, Robert Wild 40, Dan Morgan 39. Event 2 - 20 target twin rise, Clinton Duffy 20, David Tanks 19, Brian Drabsch and Greg Buckley 18 each, Dan Morgan 16, Robert Wild 14. Our next shoot is at 1pm Saturday, October 21 and will be similar to the above. Sporting clay differs from ordinary down the line shooting by trying to duplicate the flight of game birds by using a number of clay throwers set out as above.
Parkes SSAA Smallbore: Last Sunday saw 5 shooters attend the shooting complex and shoot at crow targets at both 25 and 50m for a max of 520 points.Brian Drabsch 270 - 250 - 520; Popeye Davis - 270 - 242 - 512; John Smeaton - 265 - 238 - 503 and 2 shot for practice only. Popeye started out gangbusters but the pressure got to him at 50m, consistency my boy, consistency.
Our next shoot is at 10am on Sunday, October 22 and will be ordinary targets at both ranges. There is a lot of misinformation circulating at the moments about young persons and firearms. There is no such thing as a junior shooters licence, only a permit. This only allows a person 12 to 18 years old to use a firearms under the direct supervision of an adult licensed person on a one-on-one basis and at close quarters to stop them from doing anything wrong. They cannot own or possess a firearm or ammunition (covered in the firearms & dangerous weapons act).
