20 people from Parkes were announced as baton bearers – 19 to carry the torch through Parkes on January 29 and one in West Wyalong.
28 people carried the torch through Parkes for the Sydney Olympic Games.
While the Olympic torch came through town in August 2000, there was still plenty happening in Parkes in October 2000 – 17 years ago.
These photos were published in the Parkes Champion Post between October 13-20, 2000.
