The courts came alive last week with night competition back in action. Not sure how much action there may have been Wednesday morning as the more ‘experienced’ players were grimacing mid matches and a little apprehensive about their next morning fitness regimes as aching muscles prevailed.

Davis Cup team saw a return to comp and ably led by Brad Magill who was thought to have scraped the cobwebs off his racquet which still sat in his suitcase from the grass court of London 2 years ago. Nevertheless Brad wielded his racquet and to Brenden Weekes despair Brad’s shots seemed to be on target.
Teammate Scott Knights also showed his skill to out last Jonty Ralph but it was The Brew Crew’s number 3 player Josh Smede who was the player of the night blitzing Kurt Matthews in short time. Smedey’s win just might see him climb the ranks of the Brew Crew’s team for tonight’s encounter with the red hot Questionables.
Davis Cup went on to win 4 sets to 2.
The question this comp will be can anyone beat The Questionables? Julian Fyfe, Christian Martin and Jaco Barnard are the 2 time defending champions and won’t like to be knocked off their perch.
The Potts twins did a brilliant job last week to score wins in both their singles matches against Julian and Christian but their super sub Greg Magill wasn’t quite up to the challenge and could only manage a couple of games in his 3 sets. The Questionables did receive a scare but still won 4 sets to 2 over Teen Aces.
DAW TV scored a very close 3 sets all and 1 game win over Young Guns. Young Guns team of Bec Kiley, Phil and Laura Kirk didn’t fill out the scoresheet so The Ace can’t report any further sorry.
Top Shelf and The Net Nuts was the match of the round as far as quality and competitiveness goes.
Net Nuts opened with Alex Evans defeating Mick Green in a tight tussle 6/4.
Abbey Kennedy then turned the tables and showed some nice skills to defeat Brent Tucker 6/5. Top Shelf’s Maddy McCormick was too consistent for Amelia Tanswell who will be better for the run with a 6/2 scoreline. Top Shelf won 2 of the 3 doubles sets to take the match 4 sets to 2.
Full of Excuses and Mixed Lollies always play a competitive match and top billing saw Andrew Rice take on Matt Burkitt. Farm talk was put to the side as these two love the challenge of one on one singles. It was Andrew who just scored a 6/4 win over Matt. The ever reliable Helen Standen showed her guile and out played Stacey Townsend but mum Alison Dowton was consistent as ever and had Merren Davey running all over the court in their singles to take the win 6/4.
Full of Excuses won 2 of the 3 doubles sets to finish with a 4 sets to 2 win.
The show courts were full of entertainment last week when JAG were drawn to play the Dreamteam. Darren Fisher and Andrew Hayne started proceedings and Darren’s swinging lefty serve and slice strokes got the better of Drew’s patience with Darren taking a 6/2 win.
