“Forlorn” – that’s how one onlooker described the scene at Woodward Oval on Sunday when the opening round of the Western Zone Premier League (WZPL) was supposed to take place between Parkes and Cowra.

All WZPL matches were washed out on Sunday, with those teams recording a draw.

Saturday’s matches went ahead as planned, including the round between Cowra and Orange that saw a devastating century from Mick Curtale, gifting Cowra a bonus point victory.

Focus is now on Parkes’ next game – and a big one at that – against Dubbo at Parkes on October 22.

Gun batsmen and captain Anthony Heraghty will return for round two after he was scheduled to miss the Cowra clash on Sunday.
