The hard working backrower has attracted interest from several NRL clubs over the past two seasons and has settled with the Canberra Raiders.
The Raiders wanted him to play in their SG Ball side this season, but he decided to stay at home and play in the Western Rams and most importantly turn out for the mighty Spaceman.
Darby had an impressive 2017 being named as captain of the Western Rams Under 18 team which won the country championships.
He also gained selection in the NSW Country team which toured New Zealand in July.
After an injury ruled him out for playing for the Spacemen in 2016 he was determined to play with his mates this year.
A highlight for Darby has been the opportunity to play in the Spacemen first grade team partnering with his older brother Jack in the second row.
Leaving home, family and friends has been a tough decision for Darby but the opportunity to further his football career was too good to pass up.
“It was a hard decision to make, the Spacemen are doing some great things,” Darby said.
“I’m passionate about the Spacemen and I’m really grateful for everything they’ve done for me.
“Canberra is only a few hours away so hopefully I’ll get time to come home and catch up with everyone.
“I’m excited to go and give it a good crack and take it as far as I can.
“I’m hoping to get an apprenticeship and just enjoy the experience along the way and see how far I can go."
Darby will finish off his HSC at Red Bend Catholic College in Forbes before commencing training in Canberra the first week in November.
