This is what resident Ross MacDonald has to say about his new home at Southern Cross Care Village.
Residents moved into their new 62-bed residential aged care home last Thursday.
It has been in development since 2014 with more than $30 million invested in the new state-of-the-art home.
Every element from the interior design, furnishings and artworks has been thoughtfully selected to be both sympathetic to our country heritage, while maintaining a modern, contemporary feel that would not be out of place in a five star hotel.
“It’s unbelievable,” Ross said.
“Honestly it’s terrific. Who would ever think you would go on a pension and finish up here.
“Everywhere you look – it’s never ending. They’ve even supplied us with televisions and telephones!
“It’s just mind boggling.”
Ross has been a resident of Southern Cross for four years.
“I’m very happy here. The meals are terrific, they’re first class and there is plenty of variety.
“There are three of us here with gophers and they’ve even built us a little shed to park our gophers in!”
Manager Carol Shambrook said she and her staff are thrilled with their new facility.
“This building is more worker friendly, there is so much more space and room to move,” she said.
“Our residents are all very happy and that’s the most important part.
“One of them said to me on the day we moved in, ‘I never thought in the end years of my life I’d live in luxury’. We are so glad they love it.”
Visitors to the new site will be greeted by Welcome House, a large community hall with cinema screen, surround sound and ample space for special events.
The community is invited to the Welcome Hall for a Sadie Michael Fashion sale today from 10am.
The reception hall, modern café and hair salon are housed in the Mirrabooka building which connects to the three resident wings named Wirraway, Waratah and Lammas (named after the first successful wheat crop grown in Parkes).
Each wing features an abundance of natural light, attractive lounge and dining areas as well as multiple courtyards and gardens.
You can arrange a tour of the new home by calling 6862 5800.
Southern Cross Care's Home Care team have also now relocated to their new offices at Welcome House.
They are available to help explain myagedcare, the government's entry point for all aged care services including Home Care.
Call them on 6862 5800 to arrange a free consultation to help you live happily and safely at home.
The site will be officially opened on November 18.
