A change of tournament scheduling throughout NSW has seen tournaments clashing thus metro players have to choose whether to stay in the City or travel out to Country areas to compete for National rankings points. This is a no-brainer and unless the tennis hierarchy listen to the coal face of the sport, numbers at Country events will dwindle until the tournaments can no longer remain viable.
Parkes Tennis is very fortunate to have the support of Parkes Services Club so the expenses of experienced court officials coming in to service the event can be covered. The tennis centre took a beating last Saturday with strong dry winds blowing debris across the complex but a pre scheduled working bee on Sunday was well attended and the centre looks in pristine condition and ready for the start of play. Thanks to those families who read their newsletter and gave up a couple of hours of their time to help.
It must be mentioned that stalwart Hedley Nicholson has been toiling away for months preparing the courts and surrounds to be up to National standards. Locally Parkes will have 12 players in action.
First up will be the 12 and under and 14 and under girls divisions which will see Maddy McCormick, Olivia Dolbel, Lily McCormick, Ellen Dolbel and Harriet Peters all competing in opening round matches in the 12s at 8am against opponents from Sydney. Holly McColl will play in the 14s at 8am against an opponent from the Riverina and Abbey Kennedy who is super excited to be making a return to tournament tennis after being out injured for the past ten weeks will take on Sydneys Isabella Johnson also at 8am.
Hannah and Phoebe Potts have been in striking form and will both start their weekend of matches at 1pm. Cody Kirk will play in the 12 and under doubles with Hawkesbury’s Joshua Busa at 4pm on Thursday afternoon.
Ben Evans will kick off in the 16s singles at 12 noon against a Sydney opponent while Jake Magill is seeded 2nd and has a bye and will play his first match at 2pm.
