The team of Leone Stevenson, Jake Hodge, John Green and Denis Howard finished best of the 13 teams to move on to the next round.
They shot 8 under par for a nett score of 57, defeating Mark Kelly, Kasey Fay-Rice, Colleen Flynn and Peter Dixon by three-eighths of a shot.
The runners-up started the better after both teams began on the 9th hole.
Flynn was the catalyst of a very impressive run for the runners-up, hitting her approach to 15cm on the 10th hole to make an easy birdie.
They then birdied the 11th, 13th 14th and 15th holes to be 5 under after only seven holes, leading by three shots off the stick.
Birdies on 13, 15, 16 and 18 saw Stevenson’s team close the gap before the pendulum swung entirely their way on the 2nd hole.
A cracking 3-wood from Hodge finished on the putting surface and was followed by an
excellent putt from Green to secure a much needed eagle.
Neither side could convert their chances on the next few holes before both teams sunk long putts on the 7th hole for birdie.
A finishing birdie on the 8th hole was just enough to get the win for Stevenson’s team over a bitterly disappointed runners-up.
