The worst of the heat will be felt in the state’s north-west, where a large region is likely to reach 29 degrees or hotter conditions on Saturday.
In Nyngan temperatures are expected to reach 33 on Friday, 38 on Saturday and 30 on Sunday while in Dubbo they are predicted to hit 31, 36 and 28 degrees over the three days.
Around the central west the coolest towns on Saturday will be Orange and Lithgow, where temperatures are only expected to reach 28 degrees. All other towns will see 30 degree or over days.
Temperatures at Bourke and Brewarrina are forecast to hit 40 degrees on Saturday.
Wanaaring, which holds the current NSW record for September at 39.6 degrees in 2004, is among the expected hotspots.
The Bureau of Meterology said NSW had never had a 40-degree day recorded in September, but the latest model runs are putting that into play for 2017.
The predicted conditions mean a ‘vast area’ of the state will have a very high fire danger rating over the weekend, with some areas tipping into the ‘severe’ risk.
