Here’s a car we don’t see very often.
Viv Coady from Forbes owns this original 1970 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1600.
He’s owned it since 2010 after saving it from the perils of becoming a paddock basher.
One of Viv’s work colleagues uncle owned the Alfa and when the friend mentioned that he was about to inherit the car with the intention of letting his kids drive it around the paddock Viv immediately stepped in.
“I knew the pedigree of these cars” Viv said.
“They were raced as is in factory trim, and although the car needed some TLC, I knew it was a one owner vehicle and was unmodified”.

So Viv did a deal and bought the Alfa in 2010 and brought it home on a car trailer.
“I was attracted by the advanced technology of the Alfa” Viv said.
In 1970, the Alfa Romeo Giulia featured an all alloy motor with twin overhead camshafts and twin carburettors with independent suspension all round, four wheel disc brakes and five speed manual transmission.
In its day it was also three times the price of the equivalent Holden or Ford putting it out of reach of the average punter at the time.
When Viv brought the car home he set to work going over the mechanicals on the Alfa and giving it enough of a tidy up to get it back on the road.
Within 12 months he had it registered with the Berrima car club which was closer to home at the time.
Now a member of the Central West Car Club based in Parkes, Viv enjoys getting the Alfa out on car club runs when he can.
For now, Viv is happy enough with the well used look of his Alfa despite the sadly crazed paint but the dreams are there for a complete restoration one day in the original colours.
