Mr Roger Rechner of Rechner equipment donates an american international pedal tractor to the Parkes pre school. He imported it for the purpose of donating it to the school as he has had a long relationship with the school. This is only the second one to come to Australia , the other was bought by a farmer in Trundle.

The price of the Champion Post rises to $1, the first rise in 2 years.

After 71 years the former railway D.L. Office in May Street will close, as will the one in Dubbo. The division engineer in Parkes Mr Brian Crutcher said almost the entire staff of 11 accepted redundancy packages and will end their railway careers. Only Phil Baker with 21 years service will remain employed.

JANUARY 2007
Mr David Cooke was officer in charge of the Parkes Telescope from 1988 to 1993 and was also the senior receiver engineer at the 1969 Apollo 11 landing in July. Mr Cooke will receive on of the inaugural “Stars of Australia” awards. The awards have been initiated by the Australian Chamber of Commerce Houston and Western Australian Trade and Investment Office. The awards celebrate the Australians and Americans whose notable achievements have arisen from the long connection between the two countries.

Parkes Shire’s Australia Day Ambassador this year is Prashanth Shanmugan, a Hindu who grew up in Lidcombe. He travelled 2500 kilometres across NSW speaking to high school students and community groups about international humanitarian law and the Red Cross’s role in world conflict zones.
