Canberra AMT: Jake Magill returned yesterday from playing in the AMT event in Canberra. Jake had a great start with two wins which was his best result to date. He then came up against World number 1586 Edward Bourchier from Tasmania. Ed is 28 years old and a real journeyman of Australian tennis travelling the World playing in Challenger events.

He was far too good for Jake and went on to win the singles event to earn himself a casual $1000 prize money. Jake enjoyed the opportunity to play someone with Edward’s experience and professionalism.
CHS Open Girls Carnival: Yasmin Potts, Hannah Potts, Phoebe Potts, Holly McColl and Maddy McCormick will represent Western Open Girls team this week as they compete at the NSW CHS Championships played in Wagga.
The girls have all been working hard and except for Yasmin who did not compete this year, the other four girls are all in fine form having qualified for the TNSW State Finals last weekend. The Western girls are fielding the strongest team for some years and are hoping for a top six finish.
Todd Woodbridge Cup: This Friday Parkes will be staging the Todd Woodbridge Cup which is an Australia wide primary schools competition for years three and four.
Each team will consist of four girls and four boys with the top two teams progressing to the State finals in Sydney in November. Parkes Public, Holy Family, Middleton, Parkes East, Parkes Christian School, Bogan Gate will all compete.
Junior Competition: The BBQ and presentations are on this evening from 6.15pm after the final round of competition. The singles and doubles division will see the final and playoff matches both commencing at 5pm.
ANZHOTSHOTS: Yesterday was the final Monday session for Hotshots tennis for this term. This Friday will also see the finish of their eight week program while the Tuesday groups will finish next Tuesday, September 19 due to the Show week.
The Hotshots kids have all had a great term of learning and developing their skills and many are very excited with the new Red ball competition starting next term on a Tuesday afternoon to fall in line with Orange, Green and Yellow ball competitions.
All divisions will run for half an hour from 4pm through to 6pm playing singles matches on appropriate court sizes and when the juniors have progressed through they can join in the singles and doubles division which they play one set of singles and one set of doubles.
Services Club Junior Open: September 28-30 are the dates TennisNSW has allocated for the Parkes Services Club junior open for this year. This is during the school holidays which is a new initiative by Tennis Australia to try to combat players missing school days.
The Parkes Committee has set Sunday, September 24 as a Working Bee to tidy up last minute jobs around the centre so if anyone can give a hand from 10am for a couple of hours it would be much appreciated.
