The Parkes Action Club will be hosting the unique event, with the support of Parkes Shire Council, Ostini Wool and Langlands Hanlon.
The exhibition’s theme is called 'Ducks on the Pond' and will be held at St Elmo Shearing Shed, located 12 kilometres from Parkes down Job Lane.
It’s all to showcase local and regional artists, while fundraising for the Parkes Action Club and the numerous community programs it provides and charities it supports.
Artworks will be officially unveiled on opening night, which will take place on Saturday, September 16 at 6pm.
Parkes Action Club chairman and art enthusiast, Gary Somers, couldn’t be more excited for the event.
“We thought we’d do something different,” he said.
“I believe it may be the first time an art exhibition has been held in a shearing shed in Parkes.
“And all the money raised will be going back into the Parkes Action Club.”
St Elmo Shearing Shed was built in 1880, with extensions made in 1908.
Gary was also excited to announce the impressive line-up of reputable artists the Action Club has managed to secure for the event.
The exhibition will feature the works of Eryn Mullins from Condobolin, Jocelyn Moles (Parkes), lighting and installation artist Jamie Coffill (Condobolin), Ralph Tikerpae (West Wyalong) – who’s had pieces in the renowned Sculpture by the Sea exhibition, Martin Lane (West Wyalong), Elsie Mahon (Parkes), Pol Cruz (Bogan Gate) and Lucy Buttenshaw (West Wyalong).
Tickets are $25 prepaid or $30 on the night.
Tickets includes food by The Dish Cafe, wine by Twisted River Wines and entertainment by The String Family.
Gary said there are limited tickets available so the sooner interested people purchase their tickets, the better.
“We’re encouraging people to prepay, mainly because the event is catered for,” he said.
Pre-purchase tickets can be found at the Parkes Library, Totally Work Wear Parkes and Langlands Hanlon.
People can also purchase their tickets via direct deposit – BSB: 802 394 and Account: 38911. Include your name in the reference box.
For those who won’t be able to make opening night on September 16, the exhibition will continue the next day.
St Elmo Shearing Shed will be open on Sunday, September 17 between 10am and 4pm.
The Parkes Action Club is asking for a gold coin entry.
The Parkes Quota Club will provide an all-day morning and afternoon tea on this day.
St Elmo Shearing Shed is located at 201 Job Lane – 12 kilometres from Parkes on the Renshaw McGirr Way (Wellington Road) and two kilometres down Job Lane.
Parkes Action Club is asking anyone attending the exhibition either days to please wear sensible shoes (no tall heels).
