Office of Sport Development Officer, Joanne Barrett, said volunteers are the lifeblood of community sport and help to ensure the successful operation of clubs.
“Volunteers are the backbone of most grassroots sporting clubs and without their contribution, many people wouldn’t have the opportunity to participate in grassroots sport, which is a valued and important part of building and uniting communities,” Ms Barrett said.
“The awards acknowledge the dedication and hours of behind the scenes work of volunteers, which brings everyone together on game day.”
The biannual awards recognise the hard work and dedication of volunteers during summer and winter sport.
“Volunteers do more than just dedicate their time to the club, association or committee, they also bring valuable knowledge and insight to these organisations.
“We welcome nominations for volunteers in the under 25 year old category and from all ages in the open category,” Ms Barrett said.
Award winners and runners up will be presented with vouchers to the value of $250 and $100 respectively to spend on sports development programs endorsed by the Office of Sport.
Nominations are now open for individuals who have volunteered between April to September, 2017.
