Goal-keeping was a highlight in the match with both Tracie Sams and Gracey Jones playing well for their respective teams making many critical saves both in general play and in penalty corner defence.
Best for Middleton were Tracie Sams, Peta Fagan, Bianca McPhee and Sarah Hartin with Jacqui Simpson having her usual consistent game for Rovers.
A Grade Men: Magpies Academy put on a polished performance to defeat Rovers Gold 5-1.
Goals for Magpies were shared between Aaron Wright, Glenn Johnstone, Pete Amor, Regan Hotham and Tim Somers. Aaron Huppatz was the lone goal-scorer for Rovers.
Best for Magpies were Josh Kearney, Regan Hotham and Dan Wilson with Aaron Huppatz and Kieren Deland playing well for Rovers.
Masters defeated Budgies 3-1. Laurie Wakefield scored a double with Steve Macgregor also contributing to the total for Magpies with Andrew Bourke scoring for Budgies. Ben Hawken, Jayden Pusterla, Andrew Finn and Will Cassell all had strong games for Masters with Andrew Bourke playing well for Budgies.
B Grade Women: Middleton Eagles defeated a depleted Star Budgies 5-0.
Jo Besant and Nicola Mitton both scored doubles for Eagles with Michelle Hansen also converting. Best for Eagles were Nicola Mitton, Kathryn Moore and Jo Besant with Rach Kelly and Carmen Amor never giving up for Budgies.
Middleton Maroon defeated Cellars 2-1 in a very close contest. Louise O’Leary and Lucy Stevenson scored for Maroon with Emma Potts converting for Cellars.
Best for Maroon were Olivia Noakes, Gabbie Noakes and Bianca McPhee with Nat Kelly and Emma Potts playing well for Cellars.
Magpies Black put in a strong performance to defeat competition leaders Rovers 3-2. Meg Turner scored a double with Lori Ross also converting for Magpies. Goals for Rovers came through Rachel Hoy and Christina Kruger.
Best for Magpies were Louise Witherow, Lucy Turner and Meghan Searl with Kelly Spedding and Laura Kirk playing well for Rovers.
Magpies White defeated Marist 2-0. Lisa Clarke and Eliza Creith both scored for Magpies. Best for Magpies were Mel ten Cate, Wendy Rix and Anne-Maree Searl with Vivienne Tosetti, Fran Dixon and Justine Morrissey playing well for Marist.
B Grade Men: Masters defeated Rovers Gorillas 3-1 in a close match.
Will Cassell, Luke Coleman and Andrew Finn all shared the goals for Masters with Anthony Lock scoring for Gorillas. Masters’ best were Will Cassell, Todd Skinner and Luke Coleman with Jarrad Duffy and Aaron Huppatz playing well for Gorillas.
Cellars put in a very strong team performance to defeat Middleton 6-2. Craig Kelly was in stellar form in the circle converting four goals for Cellars with Thomas Hitchick and Will Harry also scoring.
Blake Godwin and Gordan McIntosh scored for Middleton. Best for Cellars were Hugo Fenton, Dane Hendry, Craig Kelly and Ryan Edwards with Nick Kelly and Andrew Smith the best for Middleton.
Magpies Academy defeated Rovers Gold 4-1. Koby Johnstone dominated for Magpies knocking in four goals in an outstanding performance.
Brenton Nightingale converted for Rovers. Best for Academy were Koby Johnstone and Riley Swan with Nic Job and Charlie Jones playing strongly for Rovers.
PARKES MEN’S BOWLS
Not much to report this week. The Pennants season is over, no Club Champiomships matches were played this week and no Social Bowls on Saturday due to the Ladies Classic Triples being played on the weekend.
Social Bowls Thursday, August 17: Five games of Pairs were played. Col Mudie and Martin Tighe defeated Ron Hornery and Bruce Deland 20-15 in what as the closest game of the day.
Ray Jones and Gordon Dickson proved too good for Graham Dixon and Gladrin Sun winning 20-14.John Ward and John Dunn had a win against Warren Bevan and Bob Freeman, 30-19. John Davies and Bill Skinner were too strong for Tom Furey and Jim Blake and in the other match, Steve Ryan and JHohn Taylor had a win against Rob Irving and John Watson, 25-12.
Badge Draw: The Badge Draw was not won last Friday and will be worth $1000 this week and will be drawn on Friday night sometime after 7.30pm, after the meat and voucher raffles. You have to be there to win it so come along and have a great pub style meal and may be go home with a bundle of cash in your pocket.

Parkes Veteran Golf
Last Thursday fine but cool and very windy conditions greeted a good field of sixty veteran golfers for the Lachlan Valley Veteran Golf Championships over 18 holes at West Wyalong. Richard Nixon (Forbes) won A grade scratch on 81 with Stephen Uphill (Forbes) runner up on 83. Robert Stear (WW) won B grade scratch on 92 on a count-back from Stephen Howarth (WW). Runner up on 92 points. Ross Armstrong (WW) won C grade on 97 from runner up Chris Fealy on 98.
Alfonso Melisi (Cowra) was A Grade Handicap winner on 74 from runner up Ian Phipps (Parkes) also on 74. Ross Smith (Parkes) was handicap winner in B grade on 75 from runner up Richard Hamilton (Parkes) also on 75.
Graham Cooke (Parkes) was C grade handicap winner on 75 from runner up Tom Edols (Forbes) on 76. Ray Cartright was Stableford winner in A grade on 35 with Steve Simpson (Parkes) on 33.
John Pearce (Parkes) was B grade Stableford winner on 34 from Austin Crampton (WW) on 32. Nearest the pin winners were Ian Phipps and Dale Stait. This week Veteran Golfers will be playing a 12 hole event at Parkes (12:30pm for 1pm start).

Yes Zariz, a finalist in the 2015 Country Championship at Royal Randwick, was a popular winner of the Collie Hotel-Collie Cup (1300 metres) at Gilgandra on Saturday. Very well ridden by Dubbo apprentice Kaylee Kirkwood, Yes Zariz is trained at Gilgandra by 81 year old Bruce Parker for several family members. Travelling fifth to the home turn,Yes Zariz ($4 favourite) broke clear and won by over a length from the strong finishing Also A Star (Eleanor Webster-Hawes, $21) with Track Flash (Leanne Henry, $8.50) a handy third.
From the Cec Hodgson stable at Coonamble, Also A Star is raced by Allan Steele and Andrew Schier from Gilgandra. Andrew Schier who is President of both The Gilgandra Jockey Club and Western Racing Association had earlier in the day received Life Membership of the the Gilgandra Jockey Club.
Another good ride from Kaylee Kirkwood came in the Chandler Gilgandra-Cam and Dorothy Carmichael Memorial Benchmark 50 Handicap ( 800 metres ) aboard the Peter Nestor, Dubbo trained Clever Buttons. A newcomer to the Nestor stable after racing at Queensland tracks,Clever Buttons ($10) raced handy to the leading pack before sprinting to a three way photo finish win over New Player (Terry Green, $31) and Hidden Chief (Simone Vella, $8.50).
The judge,Neville Good from Dubbo, when examining the photo finish needed a magnifying glass to find a margin between Attalea and Slickster in the Royal Hotel-Bob and Clare Coxedge Memorial Benchmark 50 Handicap,1100 metres.
After a length of the straight battle, the Brett Thompson, Gulgong trained Attalea (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $3.30 fav.) was the winner by a nose from the Lee Lunn, Dubbo trained Slickster (Leanne Henry, $6.50).
Miss Emily,a recent addition to the Kylie Kennedy stable at Narromine,was a surprise winner of the Gilgandra Services Club-Class of 1987 reunion Maiden Handicap,1200 metres.
Starting at $51, the previously 7 times unplaced Miss Emily (Tony Cavallo), charged home from midfield to beat Divine Nature (Billy Cray, $8) and Mary Thinks (Andrew Banks, $61) in a close finish.
The annual Collie Cup meeting at Gilgandra attracted a record crowd. Racing at Parkes and Cobar Picnics on Saturday and Dubbo (TAB) on Monday August 28. Owners and trainers please note there was incorrect information published in official journals regarding the programme for the Mendooran race meeting on Saturday, September 2. The Class 1 Handicap (1200 metres) will be a 1200 metres Maiden while the Class 1 and Maiden Plate (1500 metres) will be a 1500 metres Maiden. Nominations close 11am next Monday, August 28.
