This year's theme was friends.
With a jam-packed program of activities and games, students assembled in Cooke Park for the opening ceremony at 9.30am and the arrival of the Reading Day relay and ‘friendship chain’.
From 10am, games in the park and activities and music down Clarinda Street kicked off, with students setting off to explore.
In the meantime, there were Parkes Christian School students singing Nursery Rhymes and dancing to music in the CBD, African drums played outside Cafe ‘n’ Ate and Neil Westcott and Friends kept their juvenile audiences captivated at the Parkes Office and Stationery Shop.
There was also a graffiti wall, piano playing, secret spots along shops, a fire truck talk and a telegram stand – just to name a few.
Everywhere you looked in Parkes’ CBD on Friday, there was something to do with reading.
Some classes rounded-out their Reading Day experience this year by watching the ‘Cow Tripped over the Moon’ production by Parkes Shire Library staff – the same performance held on the 2017 National Simultaneous Storytime event on May 24.
