Parkes Women’s Bowls
Tuesday saw another good roll up of bowlers with two games of triples and a game of pairs. In the triples matches the team of Liz Byrne, Maureen Miller and Di Greenhalgh defeated Rhona Went, Frances Charlton and Chris Curteis and in the other match Hilda McPherson, Merilyn Rodgers and June Burgess were too good for Joan Simpson, Marja Iffland and Valmai Westcott.

The pairs match saw Brenda Davies and Lorraine Baker defeat Minnie Riordan and Lorraine Baker (playing twice). President Merilyn provided the spider for the day which Rhona Went won with a super bowl. Matches were followed by lunch and Trading Table and raffle. Marja Iffland won the money tree and the bowls winners (out of the hat) were Brenda Davies and Lorraine Baker; runners-up Valmai Westcott, Marja Iffland and Joan Simpson.
There will be a big weekend of women’s bowls this weekend at the club with the Parkes Classic Triples commencing at 9am Saturday. There will be many teams from surrounding districts plus local bowlers. We Should be treated to some entertaining bowls. Jacky’s Bowls Shop will be at the club on the Saturday for anyone needing bowls clothing etc.
Coming events: Club Championship Fours close August 22 at 12pm. Coaching Clinic at Forbes - September 23 and 24 (either day or both). Veterans Day at Canowindra - September 5 (list on board). Social bowls Tuesday: Ring Minnie or Eileen (68621446) between 9am-9.30am for a 10am start. All welcome. Social lady: Margaret Hawken.
Railway Bowls
Lots of action at the bowling club at the weekend with good numbers on Saturday and two matches on Sunday. Matches played in Minor Singles, Nathan Wills proved too strong for Tony Latter taking out the match 31-21.
Tony had a 17-4 lead after 12 ends but it was all Nathan in next 19 ends going on too win the match. In the Major Triples match Allan Cameron Geoff Leonard and Kevin Wales defeated George Greenhalgh, Mick Furney and Brian Hampton 27-18. A great win from Kevs team going into the match as under dogs, on 14 ends the winners were down 18-16 but fought back to win the next seven ends to gain victory.
Last Saturday 24 bowlers took part in three bowl pairs with prize money up for grabs to create further interest. Leads and skips were drawn out of the hat to make the day an even affair all bowlers enjoyed the day and encouraged the club to continue to alternate Saturday bowls.
Winners were Brett Frame and Geoff Leonard, second went to Mick Parks and Allan Affleck and third went to Graham Thomson and Guy Bennett. Wednesday results Steve Clegg,Frank Gersbach and Bill Searle Runners Up Shane Sharman,Gary Phillips and Bob Freeman Stefans Haircut won by Matt McGrath
This weekend Saturday three bowl pairs only it will be two games of 12 ends with prize money again up for grabs single entries names in by 12.30pm for 1pm start.
Major fours this weekend, Terry Hetheringtons team play Jim Daleys team. Mike Phillips team play Luke Ramsay team. Round 1 major triples to be played on or before September 3. Terry Hetherington team play Matt McGrath team play Shane Sharman team and Tony Peisleys team play Lee Hetherington team. Good bowling to all taking part.
Eugowra Rifle Club News
Last Saturday just five members attended to compete from 500 yards. Conditions were excellent with some gentle westerly breezes coming across the range. The fine conditions resulted in some high scores with Ian Ward recording a double possible 100 with ten central bulls. Jim Maloy also recorded a very respectable 113 out of 120 in F Open (telescopic sights).

This weekend the club championship will continue and is scheduled from 500 yards to get the program back on track. Shooting will commence from 1.30pm. The Central Western District Rifle Association has also announced the date for the Champion of Champions matches and AGM. They will be held on the Eugowra Range commencing at 10am on Sunday, September 10. Eugowra Rifle Club representatives will be David Jolly in Target Rifle, Jim Maloy in F Open and Barry Plowman in F Class Standard. The club wishes all representatives the best of luck.
Netball
With only two weeks left for NetSetGo and Super 8s, and two weeks of round games before finals for Divisions 1 and 2, the Parkes Netball junior competition has almost reached its conclusion for the year. A big thanks to the parents and friends who have come down and watched and cheered for the players each and every week. Nominations are now open for the Kelly Swetland Memorial Trophy. This prestigious award is for a junior net baller (18 and under) who has made a significant contribution to netball in Parkes. Nominations close on Sunday, August 27 so please get your nominations in as soon as possible.
With the rainy weather this week, please remember to check the PDNA Facebook page for any changes to Friday night training or Saturday morning competition due to inclement weather. If it rains overnight, the call will be made by 8am as to whether the competition will go ahead or not. Our sincere apologies to those who travel from Trundle, Tullamore, Peak Hill and beyond to come and play however we are unable to make the call any earlier than that. A reminder the next General Meeting of the Parkes and District Netball Association will be held at 7pm in the Board Room at the Parkes Ex-Services Club. If you have any ideas or suggestions in regard to the netball competition this year and beyond, please come along and have your say.

Bridge
We had seven tables on Thursday 10th August and the north south winners were Anne Berkeley and Gai Baker with 58.98 per cent. Close behind were Isabel Orange and Marlene Freeman with 58.53. Third place went to Margaret Hawken and John Quin 51.09. East west winners were Anna Darwent and Keith Fiedler 65.08 followed by Vicki Burke and Dawn Phipps 60.96. Robyn Sheridan and Wendy Andrews were third on 52.28. Monday night's Howell movement saw another win for the Bakers -Tim and Gai, with a score of 65.97. Three pairs tied for second on 54.17. They were Beryl Twardy, Rosemary Morris, Greig Ball, Gary Somers, Dawn Phipps and Jennifer Calvert. There were equal winners on Tuesday 15th August with a score of 62.5. They were Keith Fiedler and Barbara Magill and Isabel Orange and Angus Glasson. In third place were Laurie Keane and Liz Matthews with 54.17 closely followed by Margaret Hawken and Audrey Somers 53.12.

At last months shoot, seventeen shooters attended the complex and shot in a 80 target say with two events.
Event 1: Sixty targets known rise using six auto clay throwers set at various angels, heights and speeds. Last weekend we saw seven shooters attend the complex. They shot at ordinary targets at both 25 and 50 metres for a maximum of 500 points.

A sly westerly wind change from north/west to south/west caught out many shooters at the 50 metre target. Our next shot is on Sunday, August 20 at 10am. It will be crow targets at both rangers.

Sunday, August 13 the Parkes Services Social Golfers took to the Fairways on a balmy day for this time of the year. Winner on the day was Chris Goodie with a magnificent score of 45 Individual Points. Runner ups on the day were Knap Pale-Nappa Pili with 43 points from Reg Davison on 36 Points and Brian Hogan on 35 points. Yep, you guessed it, around the corner came Captain Chop who proceeded to Chop 10 shots off poor Chris's Handicap. Somebody please throw him a chocolate.
Ladies Nearest Pins Margaret Hogan once again succeeded on both the fourth and 11th Holes. Men's Nearest the Pins, first Robert Rea, fourth Chris Goodie, sixth Ray Cabban and Robert Rea.
