An even par round at Goulburn Golf Club last Sunday saw Justin Sutton finish top of the Lachlan Valley golfers in the NSW Country Championships.

After an opening 73 in the first round last Saturday, Sutton put together a strong round the very next day to jump 16 places in the standings and finish in 10th position overall.
Sutton finished the two day event three over par, six shots behind the winner.
Parkes’ other representative did not fare as well.
Mitch McGlashan, battling a hand injury, failed to fire with a first round 80.
He too improved on his second outing of the Goulburn course, shooting a 75 on the Sunday to finish 15 over par, climbing 16 positions in 69th spot.
Forbes’ Steve Betland bounced back from a disastrous 83 on the first day to shoot the best score in the final round, a four under par 66.
The score saw the defending Parkes Open Champion jump 80 spots to 27th and lament what might have been.
In local golf, Sam Turner returned to form after some disappointing recent performances with a very good 40 points in the Phil Barnard Painting Services two-ball multiplier stableford.
Turner took out the individual event while his grandfather Brian McPhee combined with Rob Hey to claim the pairs event with 76 points.
Ball winners included Peter Magill and Troy Thomson (72), Peter Picker and Ian Phipps (71), Wayne Parker and Mick Smith (70), Bill Warren and John Pearce (70) and, Ross Smith and Bruce Simpson (69).
Rob hey began his day in fine form with the nearest the pin award on the IdleRite-Tyrepower 1st hole at 251cm.
Tim Lassere took out the award on the Griffins Leading Edge 4th hole when his tee shot finished 398cm from the cup.
Lassere also finished closest on the Westlime 15th at 573cm.
Rick Glover scored one for the veterans when he was closest on the Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th hole.
David Stevenson hit a good shot into the Harvey Norman 11th hole, putting for birdie from 300cm.
Sam Turner’s approach to the Parkes Readymixed Concrete 9th hole was the best of the day at 570cm while Riall Harrison hit a very nice shot into the PJL Group 18th to set up a chance of birdie from 154cm away.
