The introduction of two hour parking in Parkes has gained the support of 99% of the population.

The St Joseph’s Infants School in Court Street is no longer used by the school. The school has now been moved to the premises formerly used by Our Lady of Mercy College. They now have an assembly hall, multi purpose art and craft rooms as well as the usual class rooms. Mrs June Baker is the principal.

Miss Judy Thornton has retired after 20 years of service to the Parkes Library and its borrowers. Mr John Scott is now chief librarian.

Year 2 students at Parkes Central School held a pet show as their end of year activity. Wade Cannon brought Goldie the fish and his pet spider, Hannah Farrant Jayet brought Jessie her dog, who won the best dressed category and William Nunn brought his dog Jive.

Parkes Christian School receive a government grant of $120,000 for installation of covered ramps and pathways to provide access to all parts of the school and car park for disabled persons.

Tongans came from far and wide for a traditional hungi and get together at Kelly Reserve in Parkes. Local Tongan Heamani Lavaka joined the children on the wonderful facilities at the park.
