Under 12s
K & H Earthmoving-Haulage and Central West Sheds Under 12s continue to have large numbers of players turn up each week to play. Although they struggle to gel as a team with twenty-two players each player turns up to play the best they can with whoever is on the field.
A Parkes knock-on from the kick off put Red Bend in prime position and although Parkes tackled well Red Bend found a gap to score. Solid runs from Oliver Thomas, Dustin James, Mac Rauchle, Joe Monk and Ty Davis gave Parkes lots of ground but good hands saw red bend retrieve the kick and take possession.
Defence was strong holding Red Bend out and gaining possession for Parkes. Solid runs from Oliver Thomas, Mac Rauchle, Reece James, Caleb Crisp and Josh Bowd looked promising for Parkes but they struggled to get close enough to score.
Kick on the sixth by Marley Moran was good but Red Bend just read the ball well. Defence was strong by Parkes keeping Red Bend out. Jackson Parker-Lee caught the ball and set the play in motion.
Unfortunately a lost ball for Parkes gave Red Bend possession in their half. However tackles by Mac Rauchle, Bob McEwen, Dustin James, Jackson Parker-Lee, Aiden Byrnes, Kaid Lydford, Brian Mendoza and Kane Coulston ensured Red Bend didn’t score.
Parkes gained possession and again even though solid ground was made by Kaid Lydford, Jackson Parker-Lee, Zac Slavin and Ty Davis Red Bend defence was too strong, a kick by Parkes resulted in a break away try to Red Bend.
Another Parkes error gave Red Bend possession and a chance to score. No matter how hard the boys ran or how much ground they made - Mason Leedham, Zac Payseno, Toby Cox along with Oliver Thomas, Mac Rauchle and Joe Monk, Red bend defence was to strong and Parkes couldn’t get the ball over the line.
Jakey Herring made a debut as first receiver and Aiden Byrnes as full-back, both boys played well. Unfortunately Parkes lost, Red Bend 24 – Parkes 0.
Senior Girls League Tag
Parkes Services Club and Parkes Spaceman Senior Girls League Tag had a draw on the weekend against Red Bend in what was a fantastic game of League Tag.
Sportspower Under 14s
Sportspower under 14s continue to show great sportsmanship under tough situations. Last Saturday Red Bend travelled to Parkes to play against our 14s. a much stronger defending side was on the field for Red Bend than first time these teams played.
A Parkes error from the kick off gave Red Bend possession ten metres from the line. Defence was strong by Dustin Ticehurst, Austin MacGregor, Jai Thompson and Kane Slavin to keep them from scoring.
Five penalties later Red Bend were over. They had worn the Parkes boys down. As Red Bend gained possession after the try Parkes had refocused their defence. Finnley Neilsen, Benny Herring and Dustin Ticehurst continued to be the wall of defence Red Bend had to break.
Red Bend kick was caught by Bailey Bowd who set the attack in motion. Tyson Richardson, playing centre this week was in perfect position out on the side to make a break, run three-quarters of the field to score. Unfortunately conversion out wide was unsuccessful and Red bend still had the lead 4-6.
Next kick from Red Bend was beautifully picked up by Austin MacGregor who took the ball into field of play. Dustin Ticehurst fought hard to gain ground and ball passing saw the boys drive it forward. A penalty gave six again but unfortunately the try from Jason Wright was disallowed. Red Bend gained possession and Parkes continued to defend well keeping them out.
Toby Miller retrieved the next kick. Solid runs by the boys saw them in great position when the ball was kicked and bounced back towards Parkes, it was caught by Maia Haenga who turned it into points scoring. Conversion by Finnley Neilsen was successful. Parkes finally had the lead 10–4.
A knock on by Parkes gave Red Bend possession in their half and had the crowd worried but to their credit the Parkes boys continued to defend well holding Red Bend out.
Next set saw little Kade Crisp display some very good hands as he managed to keep the ball for Parkes after a very wonky pass.
A penalty gave Parkes a ten metre advantaged and as the boys drove the ball forward, Finnley Neilsen finished the set over the line. Conversion was unsuccessful.
Parkes had the lead 14–4. Finnley Neilsen caught the next ball and quick play and ball passing saw Parkes drive it forward with good runs from Lachlan Swindle and Wilson Duffy.
Toby Miller side-stepped the defence and was over the line to score. Col Rauchle converted bringing the score to 20 – 4. A missed kick metre from Red Bend try line gave them possession and the chance they needed to score and convert before half-time.
Second half saw Parkes display amazing restraint and sportsmanship as they didn’t tackle and let a young Red Bend player drive the ball forward gaining ground for Red Bend and on another occasion letting him score a try.
Ben Cooper continued to guide the ball around the field in the second half as tries were awarded to Tyson Richardson and two more to Maia Haenga giving him a hat trick for the game. Conversions were unsuccessful with the final score Parkes 32 – Red Bend 22.
Under 16s
The Brian Collins Smash Repairs Under 16s took on the Wellington Cowboys in a fourth verses fifth clash, a must win game for Parkes after the heavy loss they suffered in the first round at Wellington. Parkes kicked off and started with some good defence to keep Wellington in their half for the early sets.
Wellington could not break the defence of the Parkes boys with Cody Crisp, Liam Pope and Ben Lovett leading the way in the forwards while Marty Hennock and Escher Luck were strong on the edges.
A good backline spread led to a try by centre Raiden Choyce with a good conversion out wide by Benji Glasheen to make it six nil. Parkes were back on the attack again and the ever improving Kaiden Holmes beat several defenders in the middle of the ruck to barge over near the posts to make it 12 nil.
A rebound from a kick was regathered by Ben Lovett who scored our third try to extend the lead to 18 nil.
After a great opening twenty minutes in saw some sloppy play giving Wellington some good field position and they were able to cross for a try to make it 18 to four at half time.
The second half started out evenly but eventually on the back of good runs from Eden Lydford and Ben Lovett, Benji Glasheen crossed under the posts for a try to extend our lead to 24 to four. Wellington struck back with an unconverted try for 24 to eight.
Parkes got back on track through some good defence and eventually gained some good position after Mitch Wright made a 40 metre run only to be tackled ten metres short by the fullback.
Wellington were unable to recover and Ben Lovett capped a great game with his second try near the posts with Blake Whitney slotting his fourth conversion to make it 30 to eight.
Parkes was not finished yet They worked their way back upfield into the Wellington 20 metre area, a good backline spread saw Escher Luck put Josh Tanswell over for his first try of the year, making the lead 34 to eight. A late try to Wellington made the final score 34 to 14.
A good result for the boys, with all players contributing. Well done to all!
