For both Les and Chris this particular car holds great sentimentality having been owned by Chris’ father Hod Patton.
In his late 70s Hod had purchased a couple of vintage motorbikes.
Interestingly one of those bikes is now owned by another Central West Car Club member.
In 2007 when Hod then decided he’d like to also buy a car, he and Les found this MG advertised for sale.
It was owned by Brian Holden of Brian Holden Motors in Orange, so being close by they headed down to Orange for a look at it and Hod decided to buy it.
Les and Hod enjoyed lots of great times together driving around the local roads in the MG until Hod sadly passed away in 2008.
It was then that Les and Chris inherited the car and they have cherished it ever since.
“Having been a motor mechanic by trade, I have been able to make a few running repairs to the MG along the way, all the while bringing it up to a better standard,” Les said.
Since owning the MG themselves, now Les and Chris can enjoy taking to the country roads together – sometimes with the top up but mostly with the top down.
“One of the highlights for us was using the MG as the bridal car for our daughter’s wedding in 2012 at Mt Panorama in Bathurst,” Chris said.

“Les even took the opportunity of doing a lap around the famous racetrack, much to my annoyance because he didn’t take me with him!”
Since becoming members of the Central West Car Club in 2016, Les and Chris have enjoyed a few outings and club runs and like the opportunity to spend time with similar minded car enthusiasts.
While the MG has been to enjoy for the driving experience, Les may put the car on display at the CWCC annual Charity Show and Shine to be held on Saturday, October 14 at Pioneer Oval in Parkes.
