Parkes was the second town George Weston and his wife Carol, from Leeton, have visited as part of his first tour of the Rotary District 9700.
Rotary District 9700 is made up of 40 clubs across regional NSW, including Wagga, Orange, Bathurst and Forbes, as well as Parkes.
District governors visit each of their Rotary clubs within their district on an annual basis as part of their official duties, to discuss important issues, review the club's objectives, and personally recognise the outstanding contributions of Rotarians within their communities.
“We are delighted to welcome Mr Weston to the Parkes Shire and look forward to continuing the positive partnership council shares with our local Rotary club,” Parkes Shire Mayor Cr Ken Keith said.
“Rotary play an integral role in our community - making positive, lasting change, not only in Parkes but the wider region.
“Council recently enjoyed working in partnership with Parkes Rotary Club to complete the new Peace Precinct within the Rotary Arboretum along Bushman Street.”
District governors provide leadership, motivation, and guidance to Rotary clubs under the general supervision of the Rotary International Board of Directors.
Mr Weston was elected Governor of District 9700 at the end of June.
