Most dogs have heard the call of the wild a few times in their lives, darting off down the road or out the front gate to chase cars or simply just see what’s out in the world beyond the fence.

Not many spend a day-long journey with a lamb.
In an adventure in Mudgee that conjures thoughts of the 1989 movie The Adventures of Milo and Otis, Susan Lampough’s kelpie dog decided a stroll with her lamb companion would be the best way to spend time.
Susan, from Turill, was going about her daily routine on the farm when Bella and the newest member of the farm, the little lamb Cliffy, disappeared from a favourite resting spot.
At first Susan suspected Bella had wandered over to a neighbour’s house to play with the dogs living there. But Bella and Cliffy hadn’t.
A farm-wide hunt, covering almost 500 acres, was launched.
Susan then thought Bella might actually be missing. She rang a radio station and started searching wider and down roads.
After five hours, she posted a missing notice on social media.
Susan’s daughter called from Bathurst saying a woman had found the pair on a road three kilometers from Susan’s farm.
Susan was relieved to get them back.
“I know it sounds really cliched, but I really think it’s a miracle,” Susan said.
“It’s a miracle that they stayed together and that they were found – unhurt – by really lovely people. I don’t understand why Bella ended up where they were, so whether it was the dog leading the lamb or the lamb leading the dog, we may never know.
