But for one lucky Parkes girl it came true, thanks to a competition sponsored by Optus and Universal Music featured on Facebook.
Alison Stibbard entered the competition, never in her wildest dreams believing she would win.
But a telephone call from the promoters of the competition changed all that for her.
At first she thought it was a prank call, but after several minutes of conversation she realised that she had indeed won.
Alison travelled to Sydney with her best friend Emilie Rogers to be treated to a lunchtime intimate meet and greet cruise on Sydney Harbour with Hailee Steinfeld, who plays Emily in the movie.
Unfortunately due to the inclement weather, the cruise was cancelled, but Alison and Emilie were given backstage passes when they travelled to be in the audience for reality talent show The Voice at Fox Studios as part of the prize.
“Meeting Hailee was absolutely fantastic,” Alison said, after meeting the star of one of her favourite movies.
“She was so natural and amazing in person, and I actually got a bit star struck to be honest.
“Hailee and I share similar interests, especially when I found out that she had worked for Studio Ghibli doing the voice of Anna Sasaki in the Japanese anime ‘When Marnie was there’ which is a favourite of mine.
“Particularly since I love all of Studio Ghibli’s work.
“I hope that I get the chance to meet her again when she’s back in Australia, and it could be on the cards, you never know.”
Hailee was in Australia to promote her new single ‘Most Girls’ on The Voice on June 18, along with Jennifer Hudson.
She returns to the recording studio in the summer, having just finished filming Pitch Perfect 3.
Hailee has also appeared in films such as Enders Game, Edge of 17 and countless others, as well as being a multi-platinum artist, all at the young age of just 20 years old.
Hailee has the distinction of being nominated for a Golden Globe award, a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in True Grit, and a nomination for a Screen Actors Guild award and a Bafta award.
As the cruise was cancelled, the representative of Universal Music has offered Alison the chance to attend another concert, or meet and greet of her choosing at a later date.
So it is entirely possible that she could meet Hailee once again when she visits Australia in the future.
For Alison and Emilie it was a trip of a lifetime and certainly one they will always remember, particularly when they discovered they both appeared on Hailee’s Instagram and You Tube later that night!
