Sponsored by Richardson Dental Surgery, the 18 hole stableford was played on a course that proved too tough for the majority of the 50 starters.
It is very fitting there is a memorial shield in Mike’s honour.
- Mr Cliff Cowell
Tucker used the early conditions to shoot an excellent 39 points, too good for the rest of the field.
One point back were Laurie Wakefield and John Green on 38, followed by Anthony Riach and Wayne Parker on 37 with Ron Hetherington the only other player to play to his handicap with 36 points.
Matt lawryk came close with 35 points, followed by a group on 34 which included Tom Medcalf, Mitch McGlashan, Rob Hey and Peter Dixon.
Ball winners went down to 33 points with Dub Rogers, Ian Phipps and Tom Casey all lucky to receive a prize.
Cliff Cowell represented Richardson Dental Surgery at the presentation and said he was pleased there was a good way to remember Mike.
“It is very fitting there is a memorial shield in Mike’s honour,” Mr Cowell said.
“He loved his golf and was very well liked at the club.
“It is great his former surgery, and in particular Dr Khazima Riaz, continues to support this event, making it possible to remember a good ,man,” he said.
Despite the lack of good scoring in Saturday’s event, the sharpshooters were out in force with some very good tee shots featured on the par three holes.
The pin seeking began with Troy Thomson on the Idlerite-Tyrepower 1st hole after hos tee shot to 275cm saw him claim 20 percent of the jackpot and secure 31 balls.
Dub Rogers hit his tee shot on the Griffins Leading Edge 4th hole to 408cm to finish closest of the men.
The 4th hole was also the Money Hole, a prize claimed by Lynne Guise when she nearly fired a hole-in-one, her tee shot coming to rest only 39cm from the pin.
Mick Smith was closest on the Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th hole at 161.5cm while Matt Lawryk took the prize on the Harvey Norman 11th hole at 161cm.
Wayne Powter hit an excellent wood into the Westlime 15th hole to finish 500cm from the cup.
Tim Burke showed some skill to win both the Parkes Readymixed Concrete 9th and PJL Group 18th holes for the nearest the pin in two shots.
He hit his approach on the 9th hole to 155.5cm and his second into the 18th to 187cm to set up two excellent birdie chances.
Saturday’s event doubled as the third round of the Handiskins which sees nominated golfers vying for a spot in the four person final.
The finalists play a skins game with club vouchers up for grabs on every hole and a chance to compete in the national final in Queensland.
Anthony Riach virtually assured himself of a berth in the local final with his 37 points.
Two more qualifying rounds remain as competition heats up.
