Under 10s
A close encounter for the Derrick Hoe Excavation Under 10s after they travelled to Manildra to play Cabonne on Saturday in what ended up being a close encounter. The whole team was on their game – running hard and defending well. Tries were awarded to Oakley Fliedner, Rhys Thompson and three to Jack Milne – one of which was in the final seconds of the game to seal the victory for Parkes. Conversions were successful from Kade Ticehurst and Jack Milne. Parkes 24 – Cabonne 22.
Under 12s
K & H Earthmoving-Haulage & Central West Sheds Under 12s travelled to Manildra for what turned out to be a hard fought contest. Cabonne settled early and were making good ground from every run. Parkes defended well with Dustin James, Mason Leedham, Toby Cox and Joe Monk all working hard. The opposition only slipped through to score once in the first half. Bob McEwen, Josh Bowd, Jake Herring and Mac Rauchle played a great half of footy.
Cabonne came out after the break determined to take a win. They were up off their line so fast making it hard for Parkes to get any forward momentum. Kaid Lydford found some space out wide to get over the try line only to be denied the four points with a foot in touch. Jackson Parker-Lee, Zac Payseno, Oliver Thomas and Aidan Byrne worked hard to keep Parkes in the contest.
Cabonne scored a couple of quick tries taking the score out to 16 – 0. To the Parkes boys’ credit they didn’t give up and in the next set Kaid Lydford ran 60 meters to score under the posts. Marley Moran successfully converted. With fatigue settling in Cabonne scored in the dying minutes of the came to take the final score to Cabonne 20 – Parkes 4.
Under 14s
Sportspower Under 14s travelled to Manildra to take on Cabonne last Saturday. Parkes attack looked strong with solid runs from Dustin Ticehurst and hard hits from Tyson Richardson. Parkes’ Jason Wright scored the first try of the game, which was converted by Michael Riley. Handling errors saw the teams chasing points. Richardson passed to Benny Cooper who set up Col Rauchle but he was unlucky to have the try disallowed. A dropped ball by Cabonne led to Haenga scoring and Riley converting, bringing the score to 12-0. A strong hit by Col Rauchle led to Richardson scoring.
Half time score 18-0
Parkes started the second half with possession. Points came quickly after a big run from Bailey Bowd followed by a good pass to Haenga then to Crispy who scored. Cabonne were awarded a penalty but when their kick didn’t find touch Toby Miller made a strong run, kept the ball alive and created the opportunity for Michael Riley to score. Good ball movement saw Wilson Duffy finish the set with a try. Parkes saw more points as Riley scored and converted. A terrific team effort ended with Maia Haenga scoring the try of the match. The final score 44-6, Parkes way.
Under 16s
In another tough assignment, the Brian Collins Smash Repairs Under 16s played Dubbo’s St John’s at Caltex Park Dubbo last weekend. Good defence was a feature of the early exchanges with the Parkes forwards holding their own against the bigger Dubbo boys. Play started to open up and after a good backline spread Escher Luck made a break before passing to Isaac Tulloch who raced away for the first try to make it 6 nil. Play continued to go from end to end until Dubbo crossed out wide to bring the score back to 6-4. A fifth tackle grubber from Mitch Wright took a deflection and Blake Medlyn pounced on the ball for a try to extend the lead 10 to 4. The Dubbo boys hit back with a good try out wide to bring it back to 10 to 8 nearing halftime. A penalty goal on the buzzer to Dubbo made the score 10-all at the break.
Dubbo came out firing in the second half and crossed to take the lead for the first time. Parkes strived to get back into the game with some relentless defence but could not turn it into points. Dubbo gradually got back on top and with 15 to go our defence cracked and Dubbo crossed to extend their lead to 18 to 10. This try broke open the flood gates. Dubbo ran away with the game crossing for four tries in the last 10 minutes of the game. Dubbo proved to be too strong winning 34 to 10.
