The Rotary Club of Parkes awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship to the leading Parkes businessman and builder at a ceremony at Bushman’s function centre last Monday night.
Tim, who has been a member of the Rotary Club since June 2008, has been recognised by Rotary for his outstanding contribution to the common goals of Rotary of world peace and understanding.
Rotary is a vocation based service organisation and as such, Tim’s tremendous contribution to the building industry in the Central West is also a valid reason for awarding him a Paul Harris Fellowship named after the founder of Rotary.
In accepting the award Mr McCabe said he was absolutely and totally surprised.
“Thank you so much,” Tim said
“However it has always amazed me how much effort and dedication that you fellows put into Rotary and I often feel that I haven’t done my bit.
“I look forward to being of further value to the club and I would like to thank my wife Lee for supporting me in all my endeavours.”
Rotary President David Hughes presenting Tim with the award
“Tim has been a great contributor to the work of our Club,” David said.
“He is always there when needed, while still managing to look after his business, ably supported by Lee and his team.”
A Paul Harris Fellowship is a significant recognition for outstanding service to the community and the Parkes Rotary Club has contributed $US1000 to the Rotary Foundation to honour Tim McCabe.
The history of Paul Harris Fellow recognition
The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of US$1000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
It was established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to what was then the Foundation’s only program, Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study, the precursor to Ambassadorial Scholarships.
The number of Paul Harris Fellows reached the one million mark in 2006.
