The Parkes Day VIEW Club had a very big agenda for its June meeting, but we got through all of it, and still had time to have a lovely luncheon at the Aastro Restaurant.

We have many members who devote much of their time and effort in making our activities so successful. We honoured two of them at this meeting. Elvie Collins received a badge for being a member of VIEW for 20 years. Pam Patrick was honoured for being a member for 10 years.
Our guest speakers for this meeting were Kristy Hartwig and Doug Moore, from the RMS, who explained the Newell Highway upgrade at Parkes. All this planning is to make connectivity safer, and to make it safer for pedestrians.
The four page hand-out gives the project objectives, features, and benefits, plus listing some other options. It also has a map of the proposed upgrade. I recommend that you inquire about getting a copy to explain all this in detail. If you would like more details about this really big project, contact the Roads and Maritime Services.
What amazed me was being told Bogan Street could be handling up to 10,000 vehicles per day! Plus, many of the vehicles that could be using the upgraded highway are the massive B-triple vehicles, which can’t travel through now.
Kristy and Doug were able to answer our questions about the planning and impact of the new by-pass to the residents of Parkes, and the travellers using the highway.
Complete change of subject – come and join us on July 13, at the Uniting Church, for a great winter meal of Soups and Sweets! More details in the Champion Post closer to the date. I can truthfully say, we are famous for our yummy homemade soups, and sweets!
All women are welcome to join us, and have a great time at activities like the soup and sweets lunch, our trivia nights (twice a year), and our meetings every first Tuesday of the month (except in November – Melbourne Cup is happening). We support four schoolchildren with the Smith Family Learning for Life Program with the money we raise.
VIEW has been going for more than 50 years, and we stand for the voice, interests and education of women. Please contact our secretary Pamela if you would like to come to one of our meetings (6863 4552). Details about meetings will be in the Champion Post as to time and venue.
