Boars and Lions draw

After the Lions missed a last minute opportunity to take down the Boars in Orange on Saturday the match ended 17 all.

Parkes shot out of the blocks, in the first two minutes of the match five-eighth Lloyd Rogers placing a ball on flying winger Dyllan Phillips who bolted 50m scoring on the wing.

A turn over scrum win by Parkes again saw Rogers take the ball this time he turned  inside the pack and crossed next to the posts.

He converted his own and the Boars had a handy 12-0 lead into the break.

City rallied coming back with their big lock Joe Alexander pulling in a loose ball to cross for City’s first points.

Conversion was missed leaving the score 12-5.

Lock Israel Symington worked his way to the wing and found the ball from a wide pass through outside centre Ben Powlay.

Symington’s inside pass put Fly half John Rathbone on the ball and in the expected Rathbone style he ducked, dived and crossed wide on the wing.

The conversion scrapped the posts but nothing added. 17-5

The penalty count became a factor when at almost every breakdown a whistle stopped play.

Both sides had breaks but were called back.

City bustled from a scrum on the 15m and finally crossed out wide but they were unable to add the extras, so the score sat at 17-10.

The final 15 minutes of the match had both teams working hard – the forward packs clashed in the centre field where the game ground for several phases.

City found a gap after Parkes were down to 14 players and repeated scrums with fly half Keegan Harding crossing next to the posts. Adding the extras drew the score line to 17 all.

City had a golden opportunity to put the match away with a penalty goal attempt right in front right on the final whistle.

The ball hit the centre post and bounced back into play.

Opportunity went begging and the match came came away in a draw.

Best and fairest points were awarded to: 3 points: Winger - Joe Nash, 2 points: Prop - Leo Havilli, 1 point: Winger - Dyllan Phillips
