In our first game against Dubbo Barbarians we saw Oliver Reynolds make some great runs.
Hayden Milne was determined to add to his try tally by scoring three of his five tries for the day.
Angus Gillies worked hard to hold Dubbo from the try line.
After a tough game Ryker Moore slid over the line to score the first of his two tries for the day.
After spending the break making a cubby house as a team they were raring to go for game two against Cano/Wello.
Ben Anderson and Aaron Perrin showed awesome defensive skills.
Daniel Anderson made a break and crossed the line for a try.
Lachlan Gillies found the holes in Dubbo's defence to score his two tries.
In game three against Narromine Max Macgregor breezed over the line with two of his three tries for the day.
Heath Rathbone and Rhyan Gibson worked tirelessly to prevent Narromine from scoring tries.
It wasn't long before the hooter sounded that Tom Chapman scooted over the line to make his two tries.
The kids had a blast playing rugby and making their cubby house and are looking forward to Orange City next week.
Trophy Winners
- Oliver Reynolds (player of the week)
- Ryker Moore (player of the week)
- Daniel Anderson (most improved)
- Angus Gillies (dominos denominator)
Under 9s
The almost tropical conditions had players scrambling for the sunscreen and spectators disrobing soon after arrival in Narromine last Sunday.
Despite the heat the Under 9s team turned up ready to go and were off to a flying start beating Dubbo 6-2 in their opening game.
It was a try-a-thon for Sonny MacGregor who bagged the first 4 of 8 tries for the day.
He was relishing probably the only opportunity he will have in his lifetime to experience playing in the backline.
Teammate Fergus Keiran aka the Tackling Machine started his day as he meant to finish it giving a master class in defence.
He used text book perfect tackling to effectively shut down the oppositions attack at any opportunity.
Game two against Wellington was a more evenly matched affair with the final score 2-1.
Eben Labuschagne really shone in this game and was noticeably involved in the play more than ever.
His newfound enthusiasm for the game was fantastic to see.
Kyan ‘Wrecking Ball’ Rathbone was a defensive weapon, launching himself at the opposition on a number of occasions like a ballistic missile.
When he connected with one such tackle in the centre of the field the crowd responded with an audible ‘oooooo!’ and many a visible wince.
Ian Perrin showed great improvement at cleaning out this week and was johnny on the spot to put pressure on the opposition in the ruck.
Dominic Gibson gave the team some excellent go forward with many strong runs that opened the game up.
He then ensured we retained possessions with a secure, well-placed release from the bottom of the ruck.
Kayleb McConnell was like a mack truck ploughing through heavy defence but kept the legs pumping to keep on truckin.
At one stage it required half the opposition team to shut him down.
It was a high scoring game to finish the day against a combined Narromine / Wellington side with a 5-4 score line falling in our favour.
Henry Rice ran in three of his four tries for the day in this game with some speedy brilliance down the sideline to score in the corner each time.
Hugh MacGregor was again a work horse putting in a solid effort in defence, involving himself heavily in the clean out and running the ball up at any given opportunity.
It was a much improved effort from all players this week.
Coaches Brad and Ricey were very impressed with the boy’s consistent play and tackling technique.
Award winners were:
- Eben Labuschagne (Player of the Day)
- Kyan Rathbone (Toughest on Field)
Under 11s
The Boars under 11s travelled to Narromine on Sunday and played in perfect weather unlike the miserable conditions at Forbes the week before.
The team was a few players short this week missing.
They were missing Mack Mitchell and Hunter Green.
The team was bolstered by the inclusion of five Narromine kids.
They were Ernie, Charles, Harry, Isabella and Eddy who have permanently joined the Parkes / Narromine Barbarians for the season.
Early starts do not really agree with the team as was evident in the opening game against Dubbo Waratahs.
The Dubbo team received the ball from the opening kick off and nearly ran the length of the field to score.
They did score moments later before parents and supporters had the chance to unfold their chairs and blankets.
The Barbarians were not controlling the ball and continued to hand it over to Dubbo who ran in a second try.
Some scrambling defence by new recruit Harry and Aidan Rayner held Dubbo out before momentum began to shift.
Charlie Hargraves made some strong runs as did Sterling Green but the vigorous cleaning out of previous weeks was missing and the team went into half time 2-0 down.
Another "Tony Robbins" like address by Coach Summerhayes lifted the boys and girl in the second half.
After some good lead up play, Aidan scampered over to score and narrow the margin.
Unfortunately Dubbo were next to score but the guys never stopped trying.
Sterling was rewarded with a try just before full time.
Game two was against Forbes Platypi who had easily beaten them the week before.
From the outset it was clear that that result would not be repeated.
Improved ball retention and some strong cleaning out by Dylan Quade and Eddy really tested the Forbes team and provided good ball.
The team's defence was much stronger led by Ernie, Harry, Lachie Reynolds and Aidan.
Forbes moved out to a 2-0 lead scoring long range tries against the run of play.
Big Harry scored a try to reduce the margin and the Bah Bahs were coming home strong and camped on the opposition try-line for most of the second half.
A couple of forced passes thwarted a well earned draw.
The guys could consider themselves unlucky to lose this one in an improved performance across the board.
Looking to find an edge against Orange City in the last game, the unorthodox coach organised a photo shoot for the team with an ARU photographer between games.
The start of the final game was dynamic by our guys.
Harry scored his second try for the day after some great lead up work by Sterling and Sam Rayner who are forming a blossoming combination in the backline.
Another new player who informed coaching staff that he wants to be called Charles looked to have scored a second against the shell-shocked Lions but was the try was disallowed.
The Barbarians continued the pressure with Darcy Summerhayes and Charlie throwing themselves into the defence and gaining good metres.
The guys tried hard to break the defence of the sizeable lions players.
Unfortunately the Lions went on a try scoring rampage through their speedy backs.
Our guys never gave up but were well beaten on the day.
One of the highlights of this game was a great cover tackle by Dylan.
He nailed an Orange City player who was in full flight for the try-line.
The inclusion of the Narromine juniors is very much welcomed.
It was fitting that Harry won the Player of the Week.
Congratulations.
Sam Rayner won the Toughest on Field award.
