Despite the course receiving in excess of 30mm of rain on Friday evening a great field enjoyed a remarkable day sponsored by D’Aquino’s and Parkes Cellars on a very long Parkes course.

With the great sponsorship, members also contested qualifying rounds of the Handiskins as well as the Pybar Handicap Challenge.
The male members also played for the Ian Pinniger Memorial trophy, an 18 Hole 4Ball Aggregate Stableford event. Glen Buesnell and Marty Woods took home the major trophy as well as the Ian Pinniger Memorial Trophy. They recorded a great 75 points with Buesnell the backbone behind the victory with an individual 41 points.
In the Individual event played in conjunction Robert Cheney topped the leaderboard with a solid 39 points. Both Cheney and Buesnell congratulated D’Aquino’s Parkes manager Grant Skinner for their support and commitment to Parkes Golf.
Grant Skinner congratulated the Parkes Golf Club as well as their members for their patronage and hospitality and wished the club all the best, stating D’Aquino’s would continue its commitment to sport in Parkes
Nearest the Pin victors saw Robert Hey at 1840mm on the 1st Hole, Robert Cheney snared both the 4th and the Money Hole at 2230mms .
Michael Dellaca was delighted to see his ball finish just 4490mm from the pin on the 6th and on the back nine Charlie Allen used his course knowledge to be victorious on the 11th at 90mm and on the final Par 3 the difficult 15th victory went to Dave Stevenson at 1660mm.
Saturday’s final two awards the Nearest the Pins on the 9th and the 18th in two shots saw victory and bragging rights to Marty Woods who claimed both awards at 2800mm and 1380mm respectively.
Ball Winners from the round went to 74 Robert Cheney and Dave Stevenson, 70 Shen Tarranto and Steve Edwards, 69 Robert Hey and Michael Smith, 68 Finne Latu and Richard Hamilton, 67 Peter Dixon and John Green, Mark Francis and Peter Picker and Anthony Riach and Riall Harrison, and on 66 points were Tony Evans and Peter Boschman.
Ladies’ results
Despite a number of Ladies being away at the Annual Western Districts Ladies Championships in Orange, a good field contested the club sponsored 18 hole Stableford last Wednesday.
Lorraine Maxwell certainly bounced back to form with a comfortable three shot victory after recording 41 points which included a brilliant front nine that saw her record a superb 22 points.
Runner up and leading ball winner was Kaye Jones on 38 points closely followed by Sue Smith on 35.
Adrianne Brown won the remaining ball on 34 points.
On Saturday a reasonable field contested the D’Aquino’s sponsored day which saw the ladies playing an 18 hole 4Ball Aggregate Stableford.
Sisters Lynne Guise and Kaye Jones record a solid 65 points to edge out Frankie Cock and Margaret Hogan by three shots.
Results from the Western Districts Championships played at the Orange Ex-Services Golf Club saw five ladies figure in events with Margaret Hogan finishing in third position in the Division 1, 18 Hole Handicap.
Leone Stevenson finished third in the Ladies Division 2, 36 Hole Handicap section and also won the 18 Hole Scratch from the 1st Round.
Junior golfer Kasey Fay-Rice, playing in Division 3, finished in third place in the 2nd round of the Handicap section.
Sue Holman topped the podium playing in Division 4 when she claimed the 36 Hole Handicap Division as well as claiming the 2nd Round 18 Hole Handicap trophy.
Judy McCabe took out the opening round Scratch Division in Division 4.
Naggers Cup and Sadie Hawkins Day looms
The annual Naggers Cup for married couples will be played this weekend as will the Sadies Hawkins Trophy Day for the non-married duos. The Naggers Cup is an event restricted to married couples and is sponsored by Liz Matthews while the Sadies Hawkins is played under medley conditions is supported by the Byrne Clothing Company.
A nomination sheet is located on the club noticeboard.
Course maintenance
Green Keeper Matthew Barnden is requesting all members and social golfers repair all Divots and Pitch Marks irrespective of whether you created the problem or not. Branden’s other major concern over the Winter months is that Golf Carts are kept away from wet areas of the course.
This week’s action
On Wednesday the ladies will contest the Parkes Sportspower 18 Hole Stableford event which is also the 2nd round of the Pat Turnbull Salver, an event run over 7 rounds with the player who records the highest score from 4 rounds declared the winner.
On Sunday Cliff and Margaret Cowell will sponsor an 18 Hole 2 Person Ambrose event.
